Like other technology giants, Samsung has also started investing considerable funds in artificial intelligence. Samsung Research, the research and development arm of Samsung Electronics Corporation, oversees the expansion of the company's research capabilities. The Samsung Research division opened AI centers in Seoul and Silicon Valley in January of this year, but its efforts certainly do not end there.

The list of AI centers is enriched by Cambridge, Toronto and Moscow. In addition to creating state-of-the-art research facilities, Samsung Research plans to increase the total number of AI workers in all its AI centers to 2020 by 1.

Samsung focuses on five key aspects in its AI research

The Cambridge center will be led by Andrew Blake, a pioneer in developing the theory and algorithms that enable computers to act as if they see. The center in Toronto will have Dr. Larry Heck, an expert in virtual assistant technology. Heck is also senior vice president of Samsung Research America.

Samsung has not yet revealed who will head the AI ​​center in Moscow, but said the team will include local artificial intelligence experts such as Professor Dmitry Vetrov from the University of Economics and Professor Victor Lempitsky from the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology.

The South Korean giant revealed that its AI research focuses on five fundamental aspects: AI is user-centric, always learning, always here, always useful and always safe. The work in the mentioned centers will focus on these key aspects. Samsung has ambitious plans for the next few years, hoping to soon offer personalized and intelligent services to users.
