It seems that the long-standing legal battle between Samsung and the US Applem is over. However, the South Korean giant certainly did not come out well from it. After his several successful appeals, in which he tried to prove that the assessed compensation that he had to pay to Apple was disproportionately high, the cage fell. The South Korean giant has to pay its juice for 539 million dollars.

The whole dispute practically started already in 2010, when Samsung, according to Apple, stole a significant part of its design patents and used them on its smartphones. However, by doing so, he greatly damaged the Apple company, which at the time came up with a kind of revolutionary design for both the device and the user interface. It is not surprising that he Apple took him to court, where he demanded a hefty compensation.

A worse option

The interesting thing is that I will compensate myself Apple he did not defend too much and rather tried to move significantly with his height. The main dispute revolved around whether to calculate the compensation from the total price of sold infringing smartphones or just from the price of the components that violated the patent. Of course, the second option would be much more pleasant for Samsung. In the end, however, this did not succeed, and the US Court of Appeals decided that it should pay its owner the above-mentioned amount, which takes into account the total price of smartphones infringing patents.

While it's clear that paying this amount won't be devastating for Samsung, it's certainly an inconvenience. This dispute created a precedent that some companies suing Samsung for similar things could rely on in the future. As a result, Samsung could lose much more than "just" half a billion dollars.
