Since the second half of last year, there have been a flurry of reports from analyst firms suggesting that Samsung's dominance in the Indian smartphone market is waning. In fact, most reports state that the South Korean giant has been dethroned by Xiaomi, which has been labeled as the largest smartphone maker in India. Xiaomi earned its success mainly thanks to its Redmi smartphones.

However, Samsung has consistently denied such reports and maintains that it continues to hold the leadership position in the Indian market. He substantiated his claims with a report from the German company GfK, according to which Samsung clearly leads the Indian market. Mohandeep Singh, senior vice president of Samsung's Indian division, echoed the results of the survey.

Singh noted that Samsung has made extremely aggressive plans for India and is well prepared to handle competition from Chinese brands. He further stated that Samsung is not only focusing on cutting prices to deal with the competition. "We are the market leader, not only on the premium side, but across individual categories. We expect it to continue to be the same.”

According to the German firm GfK, Samsung achieved a 49,2% market share in the first quarter of this year. From April 2017 to March 2018, its market share was 55,2% in the $590 and above segment. For example, in March of this year, Samsung recorded an impressive market share of 58%, probably due to sales Galaxy S9.

However, Samsung has to face huge competition from Chinese smartphone makers in the low-end and mid-range smartphone segment. Samsung's main competitor in India is Xiaomi, whose Redmi series is experiencing unprecedented success.
