Smartphone manufacturers are currently copying designs mainly from Samsung and Apple flagships. However, the characteristic feature of the smartphones of the South Korean giant is the curved OLED display. Since the curved display is associated with higher costs and technical challenges, other brands in the market are not trying to copy this feature.

However, one company seems to have set out to make a smartphone with a curved display. The Chinese company Oppo could soon introduce a device with the so-called edge display, as it started buying flexible OLED panels of 6,42 inches from Samsung. Oppo could introduce the new phone as early as July or August this year.

Flexible OLED displays aren't exactly the cheapest thing, with one panel costing around $100, while a flat panel only costs $20. So, by all accounts, Oppo is working on a premium flagship with a higher purchase price.

Samsung Display is the largest supplier of OLED panels in the world. Both in terms of quality and scope of delivery, it is unrivaled on the current market. Its dominant position in this sector can be derived from the fact that it is the only supplier of OLED display for iPhone X.
