Samsung presented an interesting display at this year's The Society for Information Display (SID) conference. As you can see in the video below, a representative of the South Korean giant explains how the panel, which uses vibration and bone conduction, can negate the need for an earpiece, and thus could be a true edge-to-edge screen, without any cutout at the top of the display . Samsung showed a technological prototype sound on display, but in the body Galaxy S9+, while the moderator joked that he could already get such a display Galaxy S10.

Two suggestions as to how he might Galaxy S10 look like:

Korean media advises that the prototype will not remain a prototype for long. Apparently, Samsung and LG are ready to sell OLED panels next year, just like Samsung introduced last month. If this is indeed the case, Galaxy The S10 could get a bezel-less design and a 6,2-inch display.

The transmission bandwidth should range from 100 to 8 MHz, with very subtle vibrations that would only make you hear the sound if you held the top half of the screen to your ear.

Vivo is also working with similar technology, which calls the screen as SoundCasting. It claims to save power, reduce sound leakage and optimize sound for balance compared to other smartphone audio solutions.”

LG uses the so-called sound screen in several of its TVs. So it seems that it is planning to bring the technology to the smartphone market as well. Samsung also demonstrated a touchscreen that can respond to touch underwater.
