Press Release:A wireless speaker the size and shape of a pint can is no longer uncommon, but the Evolveo takes a slightly different route. While competing speakers are mostly on the longer side, with the SupremeBeat C5 you have to stand the speaker up. And it makes sense!

The speaker itself is equipped with a pair of 48 mm drivers, which are seconded by a passive bass radiator on the bottom. From the logic of the matter, the best placement is to place the speaker on a mat, which reflects the bass reproduced by the bass radiator on the underside. A pair of drivers, which are located on the sides of the speaker, ensures a pleasant spatial effect.

In addition to the unconventional design and placement of the transducers, the SupremeBeat C5 also stands out with its specific controls. On the top side, you will find all the controls grouped together – i.e. five buttons and the volume control. The buttons themselves have a rubber design, so they won't hurt, and with their help you can easily move between songs, pause or start playback, and thanks to the multifunction button, you can also take a phone call and use the speaker as a hands-free speaker.

What is very addictive, however, is the simple volume control using the rotary ring at the top of the speaker. Simply turn it clockwise to increase the volume, and turn it counterclockwise to decrease it. There is perhaps no simpler and more convenient volume control. The process of adjusting the volume is relatively smooth, but it is necessary to take into account that it is a purely digital design. The volume is thus changed step by step - the ring "clicks" as it turns. Adjusting the volume is indicated by the blue flashing of the backlit surround, once you reach the maximum volume, it flashes red.

A sound surprise

In addition to playing music via Bluetooth connection, there is also a slot for a microSD card, which you can fill with mp3 files or connect to the speaker using a cable with a 3,5 mm jack connector.

The musical expression is extremely good at the given price level, and when compared directly with similar models, it is more even and balanced. The highs are pleasantly round without a touch of sterility, as is the case with small speakers. The midrange is quite balanced, but in some cases it could deserve more space. A pleasant surprise is the lower deep frequencies, which the SupremeBeat C5 handles without any problems, even at higher volumes.

If you would like a little more bass, the ideal solution is to place the speaker on a chest of drawers, which then functions as a sound box. The rubber base, which protects the lower passive radiator and at the same time increases its distance from the pad, transmits low frequencies very reliably. Perhaps the only problem can be worse stability at higher volumes, when the speaker tends to "travel" on the pad due to vibrations.

And the construction is probably the only minus, or rather the materials used. Although Evolveo does not declare a certification of resistance to the ingress of small objects or liquids, the materials used seem relatively durable - after all, it is a combination of plastic, rubber and synthetic fabric that covers the speaker practically from all sides.

However, the matching of the individual parts is more problematic – if they paid more attention to it in the factory and supplemented the used plastics with, for example, a metal ring for volume control, the useful value of the speaker would suddenly increase. The same can be said about the missing transport bag.

To buy or not to buy?

If you put up with a few compromises - mainly from a design point of view - then there is practically nothing to complain about the SupremeBeat C5 speaker. The sound is fun and reproduces the entire frequency range well. Due to the volume of the small speaker, it is not possible to expect a powerful sound, but even for its small size, it plays very well, and if it is placed appropriately, even the neighbors will "enjoy" listening to you.

In terms of music genres, the Evolveo SupremeBeat C5 will get along better with electronic music and slower pop, rock or jazz. If you play metal, the reproduction will be balanced up to a certain volume and then it starts to melt more significantly, so the sound forms an ugly rolling mass that overwhelms the small speaker

The built-in battery charges very quickly (about 1,5 hours) and at average volume you can enjoy music for 12 hours, if you increase the volume a little (about 85% of the maximum) the duration will be reduced to about 8 hours, which is however still very pleasant staying power.

The SupremeBeat C5 is currently sold for around 1 CZK.
