Months of speculation are finally over. Last night, at the opening Keynote of its developer conference, which takes place in San Francisco, Samsung finally showed its first flexible phone, or rather its prototype. However, he was already a very interesting sight.

We had to wait for the presentation of the news until the very end of the approximately one and a half hour long presentation, which mainly revolved around software news. However, with the end approaching, the leading representatives of the South Korean giant began to turn the helm of the presentation to the displays and innovations that they have managed to introduce in recent years. And then it came. When Samsung recapitulated all the displays, it started to present a new type of displays that can be bent and, allegedly, even rolled in different ways. The icing on the cake was the introduction of a smartphone prototype with this type of display. Although it was largely shrouded in darkness and more or less only the display was visible on the stage, we were still able to get a perfect picture of the direction Samsung wants to take from the several-second demo.

When opened, the prototype offered a relatively large display with narrow frames on all sides. When the presenter then closed it, a second display lit up on his back, but it was significantly smaller and its frames were incomparably wider. The new display is called Samsung Infinity Flex and it would like to start its mass production in the coming months.

As for the actual dimensions of the phone, they are also shrouded in mystery. However, in the hands of the presenter, the phone seemed quite narrow when opened, but when it was closed, it turned into a rather uncompact brick. However, Samsung itself has been told several times that this is just a prototype and does not want to show the final design yet. It is therefore quite likely that in the end the phone will be much more pleasant for users and they will not have to deal with a certain "brickiness".

After the demonstration of the prototype, we got a few words about the software that runs in it. This is a modified one Android, on which Google also collaborated with Samsung. The main strength of this system should be primarily in the multitasking capabilities, as the giant display directly encourages the use of many windows at the same time.

Although we will have to wait for the final version of the phone, thanks to the presentation of the prototype, we at least know what kind of vision Samsung has in this direction. In addition, if he manages to perfect his flexible smartphone, it could revolutionize the smartphone market. But only time and the desire of customers to try new, innovative things will tell.
