Wireless charging is not one of the fastest ways to charge, but if you don't insist on getting your phone from zero to a hundred in an hour, then wireless charging is a full-fledged alternative for you, which also takes user comfort to a whole new level. Searching for power cords under the desk, checking for the correct USB type, and constantly plugging and unplugging from the power source all become a thing of the past with the switch to wireless charging. In addition, there are many indications that sooner or later phones will lose all the more or less unnecessary holes and everything will be wireless, which will have a positive effect, for example, on the degree of water resistance. So why not switch to wireless charging now that a large portion of the middle class already supports it? I tried to find the advantages and disadvantages of this technology materialized in the form of the wireless charger Wireless Charger Duo from Samsung in this review.

Design and overall processing

You will find exactly what you expect in the package. The pad itself with two positions for wireless charging, the power cable and the adapter, which is one of the largest and heaviest I have ever tried. The internal arrangement within the box is perhaps unnecessarily complicated, but this is nothing that should bother the average user. The ridiculous thickness of the manual, which has over two hundred pages, is not to be taken seriously, charging is possible for the first time after just a few minutes of opening the box.

For a price of around two thousand, the wireless charger is already expected to be perfect not only in terms of functionality, but also in terms of design. And the Wireless Charger Duo meets exactly this expectation, the processing is very minimalistic and can hardly offend anything. Still, the charger is definitely not boring. It is essentially two wireless chargers of different types connected together. The left position is a stand that allows charging in a vertical position, the right is charged in a horizontal position, and the shape suggests that this is exactly where you can place a smart watch instead of a second mobile phone. The USB-C end is pleasing and suggests that Samsung has decided to replace the older type of connector everywhere.

Excessive heating is a fairly widespread problem, especially with cheaper wireless chargers. And with two wireless chargers connected together, the overheating concerns are doubly valid. But the Samsung Wireless Charger Duo can deal with this problem elegantly. If we want to use fast wireless charging, three fans are automatically turned on, which dissipate heat through a pair of vents and maintain a reasonable temperature, which is certainly not a widely used standard today.

Charging progress and speed

Each of the charging positions has one LED. When a compatible device is placed on one of the positions, this LED starts to indicate the charging status. It is possible to charge up to two phones, or a phone and a smart watch, or even any Qi-compatible device of any size.

The Charger Duo's potential can only be fully utilized with Samsung devices. For those, each position has a power of up to 10 W. It seems that the target customer is the owner of a smartphone of the series Galaxy With a smart watch Galaxy Watch and or Gear Sport. Other Qi-compatible smartphones, smartwatches and more wearables charging at half the speed, namely 5 W. Here it is worth thinking about an alternative in the form of classic wired charging or a pair of cheaper wireless chargers. However, few people can offer the quality and design of Samsung, and those who, despite numerous recommendations, basically charge overnight, may not care.

Experience with daily use

I rested my smartphone on the Duo Charger daily Galaxy The Note 9 and the other day the watch shared the charger with it Galaxy Watch. Charging usually took around two hours, which still doesn't compare to fast charging via a cable. This is exactly the price to pay for saying goodbye to cables.

Originally, I wanted to have the charger placed on the bedside table, but the seemingly perfect active cooling turned out to be problematic in this regard. I'm not one of those people who find it difficult to fall asleep in a noisy environment, but it was the active cooling that forced the Charger Duo from my bedside table on the second night.

Before trying the Charger Duo, I preferred to use the cable regularly, but I can't imagine going back to it completely. Wireless charging is addictive and manufacturers know it well, which is why they flood the market with hundreds of different products. Of course, sometimes I need to supply the phone with as much juice as possible in the shortest possible time, in which case I usually reach for original accessories supporting Quick Charge, but this does not happen often and it does not significantly impair user comfort.

Final evaluation

Using the Samsung Wireless Charger Duo was extremely inspiring. I was pleased with the sufficient charging speed, the ability to charge two devices at the same time, the fast charging of Samsung devices and the stunning simple design. On the contrary, I definitely cannot praise the charging noise and the price. It is higher, but in the end perhaps justified, you would look for a similar wireless charger on the market in vain.

Sure, the Charger Duo isn't for everyone, but if you own at least a Samsung smartphone that can use its full potential, I think there's nothing to worry about. For your money, you get a wireless charger that will certainly not be hopelessly outdated in a year, and the user comfort of charging will be better in most respects than with the gradually disappearing cable.
