Press Release: Huawei unveiled its new campus in Dongguan, which houses a manufacturing center, a training center and all R&D labs. The company also relocated many employees here from Shenzhen. It is the largest Huawei campus in the world. For example, materials and processes for thermal regulation for 5G products are also being tested in R&D laboratories in Dongguan. There is also an independent safety laboratory.

At the opening of the new campus, rotating chairman Ken Hu summarized Huawei's achievements, growth in business activities and positive expectations for the coming year. He also mentioned that the company cooperates with hundreds of telecommunications operators and with millions of customers worldwide. Almost half of the companies from the prestigious list of Fortune 500 companies have chosen Huawei as their supplier of equipment for digital transformation. Huawei's revenue for 2018 is expected to exceed the magic mark of 100 billion US dollars. He also mentioned the successful launch of two key products for end customers, the P20 and Mate 20 smartphones. These new smartphones bring great news, mainly high-quality cameras and artificial intelligence.

Ken Hu also touched on the current situation where Huawei is accused of security risks and said it is best to let the facts speak. He emphasized that the company's security business card is completely clean and that there has not been a single serious incident in the field of cyber security in the last thirty years.

In the coming year, the company will focus its investments in technological innovation, in the field of broadband, cloud, artificial intelligence and smart devices. Ken Hu mentioned that the company believes that these technology investments will help the company to grow steadily in the telco field and accelerate the rollout of 5G technology. The company also plans to introduce news for users, such as the first 5G smartphone.

Highlights for 2019:

  • 5G - Huawei currently has signed business contracts with 25 partners, making it the number one ICT equipment supplier. More than 10 base stations have already been delivered to markets around the world. Almost all networking customers indicate that they want Huawei equipment because it is currently the best and the situation will not change for at least the next 000-12 months. Huawei delivers a faster and cost-effective upgrade to 18G. Some of the concerns about the security of 5G technology were very valid and these were resolved through negotiations and cooperation with operators and governments. According to Ken Hu, there have been several cases of states using the 5G issue as a tool to speculate on cyber danger. But these cases have an ideological or geopolitical basis. Security concerns used as an excuse to block competition will slow the implementation of new technologies, increase their costs and also prices for end users. If Huawei was allowed to participate in the implementation of 5G in the United States of America, it would save approximately $5 billion spent on wireless technology between 2017 and 2010, according to economists.
  • Cyber Security – Security is a top priority for Huawei and is above all else. Ken Hu would welcome the possibility of building cyber security assessment centers in the US and Australia and mentioned similar centers in the UK, Canada and Germany. Their goal is precisely to identify and resolve possible concerns. Huawei is amenable to the strictest screenings from regulators and customers and understands the legitimate concerns that some of them may have. However, there is currently no indication that Huawei products pose any security risk. Due to frequent references to Chinese law, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially confirmed that there is no law requiring companies to install backdoors. Huawei understands the concerns regarding openness, transparency and independence and is open to dialogue. Any evidence should be shared with telecom operators, if not directly with Huawei and the public.

According to Ken Hu, the company's achievements and development are extremely exciting, and he mentioned the changes and developments the company has undergone in the nearly thirty years he has been with it. "It is the journey of change that has made us from an unknown supplier to the world's leading 5G company," said Ken Hu.

“I would like to share with you a quote about Romain Rolland. There is only one heroism in the world: seeing the world as it is and loving it. At Huawei, we see what we're up against and still love what we do. In China, we say: 道校且长,行且将至, or the road ahead is long and hard, but we will keep going until we reach the destination, because we have already started the journey,” concluded Ken Hu.
