Alza distributes e-bikes in Bratislava, and is also considering Prague

Tisková zpráva: Najväčší český online predajca Alza.cz is testing the delivery of goods using cargo electric bicycles in Slovakia. The e-shop launched the new service last fall, first in the center of Bratislava, where it was able to deliver approximately 300 shipments per month in a pilot operation. This year, he wants to expand this type of transport more. The advantage is especially simple delivery even during rush hour and environmental friendliness.

It currently has Alza in Slovakia in its fleet of 3 heavy-duty electric bicycles, with which it primarily serves pedestrian zones and the area of ​​the old town of Bratislava. Within the delivery day, one bicycle can deliver an average of up to 13 orders per day, which is roughly half of what a classic delivery can deliver. Couriers ply the streets daily from Monday to Friday regardless of the weather. Weekends are free for now due to weaker demand. The selection of goods for delivery by cycle courier is very wide, except for XXL products, almost any article can be delivered. So far, the biggest pearl of the test operation was the transportation of a 65″ TV, 12 monitors or a clothes dryer and ironing board.

The main reason for the introduction of a new type of ecological transport was the problematic center of Bratislava, where a whole range of restrictions applies to trucks (the possibility of service only in the morning or even a complete ban on the entry of motor vehicles, etc.). Permission to these zones is granted by the municipality of the capital only exceptionally, for a hefty fee of €4. On the contrary, the bicycle does not limit almost anything in the center, which brings enormous possibilities to the company in the future.

Alza thanks to cycle couriers, they save not only costs, but also the environment. The pilot operation showed that the company saves up to 150 l of fuel and more than 300 kg of CO per month in the Slovak capital alone.². The introduction of the new service evoked positive responses even among Bratislava customers, some even request this type of transport themselves. Also for this reason, the e-shop extended delivery to Petržalka, Ružinov and other similarly remote locations during the fall. This year, he wants to add more locations in Bratislava, and expansion to Prague is also being considered.
