Try to imagine a Samsung smart TV that would not need cables not only for network connectivity, but also for its power supply and operation. Does this sound like something out of science fiction? The latest patent makes it clear that Samsung does not consider the idea of a completely wireless TV to be unfeasible.

Apparently, Samsung is working on a TV that will need absolutely no cables to function. The principle of how the future system could work is described in the patent documentation. An electromagnetic panel will be placed between the TV and the wall. It will not only draw energy from the base, but will also serve as a soundbar, creating a magnetic field in the room where the TV will be located.

In a way, this is not a very unique principle – even wireless chargers use electromagnetic fields to function, where they are used to transfer energy between the charging pad and the device being charged. In the drawing we can see that the panel near the TV will consist of a magnetic area, the necessary coils and speakers.

It can be assumed that in the future there will be another significant development of this system, when one single powerful base could provide enough necessary energy for several appliances located in the room - it could be televisions or even set-top boxes. There are also concepts of similar bases that could start charging a smartphone completely wirelessly and contactlessly the moment the user enters the room - but that is really music from the very distant future.
