Can you imagine taking a picture of any celestial body with your Samsung smartphone - and in high quality? South African photographer Grant Petersen, who specializes in astrophotography, succeeded. With the help of your Samsung Galaxy S8 in combination with a basic eight-inch Dobsonian telescope. The picture that went around the world was taken by Peterson from his home base in Johannesburg. In the photo we can see the planet Saturn just before it hid behind the moon.

The photo was taken as part of a video shot at 60fps. He then processed the video clip using a specific process that allowed him to merge several video frames into one clearer image. NASA, for example, uses a method based on a similar principle to process its photos of various astronomical phenomena.

In the photograph that Grant Petersen managed to create, it is interesting how it describes how the planet Saturn gives the impression of a small body when viewed from Earth. In fact, it is the second largest planet in our solar system. Saturn is a respectable 1,4 billion kilometers away from planet Earth, while the distance of the Moon, which looks incomparably larger than Saturn in the photo, is 384400 kilometers from Earth.

Samsung smartphone Galaxy The S8, with which the Saturn was captured, is equipped with an Exynos 8895 processor and the manufacturer has equipped it with a high-quality rear 12MP camera with the ability to take high-quality photos even in low-light conditions.
