The latest case of hacking of the communication application WhatsApp spy software developed by the Israeli company NSO Group, which recently spread almost all over the world on mobile devices with systems Android i iOS by simply making a call through WhatsApp – without the recipient even noticing that a call has taken place – once again demonstrates the vulnerability of digital communication platforms to hacking. This spyware, which is otherwise known for being used in hacking the private accounts of journalists, lawyers and human rights activists, is believed to have breached the privacy of millions of users around the world.

In response to this latest case, comments come from some of the top authorities in the global IT scene. Djamel Agaoua, CEO of Rakuten Viber, the most popular communication app in the CEE region, highlighted the following:

“In the wake of the recent WhatsApp hack, consumers should be aware that not all messaging apps are created equal. Simply put, Viber is different. What? First and foremost, we cared about privacy even before it became a mainstream trend. It's a key part of our culture, it's in our corporate DNA. Ensuring the privacy and security of communication is an absolute priority for us," said Djamel Agaoua. "At Viber we devote a really large amount of our resources to ensuring security and privacy, because we believe it is absolutely essential for communication. Our team of security engineers regularly identifies potential risks and takes all steps to prevent intrusions into our application that would tarnish the trust of our users. We are not perfect and no one in the world can guarantee zero risk. Still, we're doing everything we can to be the leader in secure and private messaging — and we're starting by making all calls and chats encrypted by default.”
