Press Release: Synology Inc. has been using post-consumer recycled plastics (PCR) in NAS products since November 2018, starting with the DiskStation DS218 and DS218+, with up to 27% recycled content. Post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR) is a material derived from e-waste. It is TÜV certified and RoHS compliant. It thus meets the highest standards.

"In the beginning we faced problems. Many experiments were conducted to find the best way to implement this plan. But it paid off,” says Hewitt Lee, director of product management at Synology. "Companies play an important role in protecting the environment. As Synology expands, we are reviewing all aspects of our business in an effort to build a better world. Using recycled plastics is our first contribution to society. Together with our partners, we will continue our efforts for environmental sustainability."

In addition to using recycled plastics, Synology has also joined the Amazon Certified Frustration-Free Packaging Program, which aims to reduce packaging waste and impact on the environment. As a customer-oriented company, Synology strives to offer durable impact-resistant cases with easy-to-follow instructions included. The company's products are delivered in laboratory-tested protective packaging to ensure protection against shock and vibration and to minimize damage during transport.

In the future, Synology plans to expand the use of PCR plastics in more models of NAS devices and look for other ways to minimize the impact on the environment without being a limitation for users.
