Earlier this week, Google's Project Zero security analytics team published informace about an error in the operating system Android, which, among other things, threatens the security of Samsung models Galaxy S7, S8 and Galaxy S9. This was a security flaw that, in an extreme case, could allow would-be attackers to take control of the affected device.

Members of the Project Zero team have described the bug as a security vulnerability of the highest severity, but the good news is that a fix is on the way – and some of you may already be waiting for it. The October security software patch for vulnerable smartphone models fixes this serious security flaw. The Pixel 1 and Pixel 2 smartphones, which have already received a security patch, do not show any vulnerability after the update, and the same success is expected for smartphones from other brands. Samsung has already released the October security update for selected models of the product line Galaxy – at the moment it should be models Galaxy S10 5G, Galaxy A20e, Galaxy A50, Galaxy A30 a Galaxy J2 Core.

It is worth noting the fact that although the above models - with an exception Galaxy S10 5G – belongs to the group of quarterly updated models, but none of them have yet been reported with the mentioned security vulnerability. According to reports from the Project Zero team, a security risk can occur if the application is installed from an untrusted source, possibly through a web browser. According to Project Zero's Maddie Stone, there's a good chance the vulnerability comes from the NSO Group, which has a history of distributing malicious software and was responsible for the Pegasus spyware a few years ago. Users are advised to download applications only from verified sources, or use a web browser other than Chrome.
