Just a few years ago, the idea of a foldable smartphone was unimaginable to most ordinary consumers. But times have changed, and Samsung is currently gearing up to release the second generation of its flexible smartphone. One of the most problematic points of smartphones of this type tend to be displays made of plastic polymer, which can be relatively easily damaged under certain circumstances. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, which the company will present in a few days at its annual Unpacked event, should, according to available reports, have an improved type of display glass.

Last week, LetsGoDigital reported that Samsung had registered a trademark in Europe that appears to be related to glass for foldable smartphones. Samsung has registered the abbreviation "UTG". It is an abbreviation of the term "Ultra Thin Glass" - ultra thin glass, and theoretically it could be a designation of an ultra thin type of glass that the company could use not only for the upcoming Galaxy From Flip, but also for other products of this kind. These theories are also hinted at by the way in which the letter "G" is processed in the relevant logo.

Check out the renders Galaxy From Flip from the web GSMArena:

The ultra-thin glass should be more scratch resistant and more durable than the previously used material. According to the GSMArena website, Corning (manufacturer of Gorilla Glass) has been working with unspecified partners for several months on glass, which should be intended for flexible smartphones. The time frame for Corning to complete this glass, however, does not correspond with the expected release date Galaxy From Flip. However, Samsung's upcoming foldable smartphone is rumored to offer S Pen support - in which case it would make even more sense to use glass for the display.
