Press Release: Western Digital (NASDAQ: WDC ) introduces a new UFS (Universal Flash Storage) memory that bears the designation Western Digital® iNAND® MC EU521. The new storage allows mobile device developers to provide users with greater user comfort when working with 5G smartphones. The new memory supports JEDEC and UFS 3.1 standards and brings the Write Booster function. Western Digital is thus among the first in the industry to provide commercial storage optimized for the applications and capabilities of the UFS 3.1 5G standard.

Western Digital iNAND MC EU521 flash memory chips for internal memory allow mobile device manufacturers and developers to take full advantage of UFS 3.1 (4/2) broadband expansion as well as SLC (single-level cell) NAND technology when loading into cache. The new technology used makes it possible to increase the speed of sequential writing up to a turbo speed of 800 MB/s, ensuring high user comfort and better work with applications such as downloading 4K and 8K formats, moving large files from cloud storage or playing games. The iNAND EU521 memory chips will be available from March this year in capacities of 128 GB and 256 GB.

“Smartphones now require higher performance and higher storage capacities. They are increasingly becoming the primary device for everything from streaming video, playing music, playing games and taking photos to making cashless payments or using map applications.” says Huibert Verhoeven, vice president and general manager of Western Digital's Automotive, Mobile and Emerging business segment, adding: "Caching using SLC and the Write Booster function of the EU521 iNAND memories represent several key performance improvements that, in conjunction with the 5G network, will provide for example faster movie streaming, as fast as never before."
