Support for 5G networks is also slowly moving into the segment of cheaper chipsets. Qualcomm, MediaTek, Huawei and Samsung are preparing to introduce their own solutions in the coming weeks and months. For the Korean company, it should be the Exynos 880 chipset, which aims to compete with the Snapdragon 765G and 768G. It follows that he should be classified as middle class.

We could hear about this chipset for the first time in connection with the vivo Y70s 5G phone. From the available information, we know that the Exynos 880 will be based on the more powerful Exynos 980. It uses, for example, the same cores and GPU, the difference will be mainly in lower clocks. The chipset will not lack two powerful Cortex-A77 cores with a clock speed of 2,0GHZ and six more economical Cortex-A55 cores with a clock speed of 1,8GHZ. The graphics chip will be Mali-G76. For example, the result from the Geekbench benchmark is already available, where this chipset scored 641 in Single Core and 1814 points in Multi Core.

In terms of performance, it is almost identical to the Snapdragon 765G, however, Qualcomm uses Kryo 475 cores in these chipsets, which are based on the older Cortex-A76, so even though they have a higher clock rate, the Exynos is slightly better in terms of performance. At least according to Geekbench results. In real use, this difference is negligible. It will also be more important for the graphics chip, where it can be expected that the Snapdragon will have the upper hand thanks to the Adreno GPU.

It will certainly be interesting to see how it compares to the newer Snapdragon 768G chipset or perhaps the MediaTek MT6853 5G or the Huawei Kirin 720 5G. As for the phones that will be powered by these chipsets, we should see them during the summer and fall of 2020.
