Two days ago, we informed you that Slovak Prime Minister Igor Matovič decided to launch the eKaranténa project despite the fact that the application has not yet been approved by Google. However, that has now changed and eQuarantine is officially available in the Play Store.

Originally, the link and download of the application was sent to users only after registration, later it was available on the website of the state server, and now eKaranténa can be downloaded directly from official shop. However, the first step in using the smart quarantine is to fill out the registration form. You can find detailed instructions for using the eKaranténa application here.

At first, the application could only be used at the border crossing Petržalka-Berg, but yesterday the border crossings Jarovce-Kitsee and Drietoma-Starý Hrozenkov were also added. The Slovak Ministry of the Interior has informed that further transitions will follow.

The principle of smart quarantine is based on the fact that a notification is sent to the registered phone number (duplicated also in the form of an SMS) to ask the user to take a photo or scan his face via the eKaranténa application at the place he specified during registration. Of course, these alerts are random. Failure to respond to this call is considered a quarantine violation. Similarly, turning on airplane mode, leaving a quarantined location, uninstalling an app, turning off your phone, turning off location services on your device, turning off mobile data or Wi-Fi, and tampering with GPS or the app are considered home isolation violations, which may be issued by the Public Health Service a fine of up to €1659 and the police up to €1000. Users will be informed of the violation by a notification in the application and also by means of an SMS message (in the event of an Internet connection failure or uninstallation of the application).

Thanks to the security of eKaranténa, there is no need to worry about someone getting access to the entered data. However, once home quarantine is breached, the data is made available to hygienists so they can take action.

eQuarantine still works in test mode, but according to official information, 90% of people at border crossings had no technical problems. The app is still not available for devices with the system iOS, pending approval from Apple.
