Samsung officially ended software support for the phones last month Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. In total, these flagship models received security updates for four years (system updates stopped after two years) and even though they are no longer officially supported, Samsung decided to release one more update that fixes a critical security flaw.

In the May update, Samsung fixed a serious bug through which attackers could gain access to the phones Galaxy, without the owner knowing about it. This vulnerability was caused by a change made directly by Samsung to the system Androidu where the way .qmg files are handled has been modified.

Informace the update appeared directly on the Samsung forum, where the models are written directly Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge that will no longer receive the May security update via the normal route. The codename of the update is SVE-2020-16747 and, among other things, it still includes the April security patches. However, a Samsung employee confirmed that the bug with the .qmg files has been fixed.

Of course, this does not mean that this move will restore software support Galaxy S7, however, it's good to see that in case of a more serious problem, Samsung can respond and fix the problem even on an unsupported device. At this time, the company has not yet commented on whether the problem also affects older Samsung phones. If so, we will definitely let you know.
