Although Sony's gaming console, the Playstation 5, has not yet been officially unveiled, the specifications have been known for some time. These include, for example informace about SSD storage, it should only offer 825GB of space and a data read speed of 5,5GB/s. For some users, these values may not be sufficient and they will want to install another SSD disk on the console. But compatibility will most likely be quite limited, basically the only candidate that meets the high demands is the Samsung 980 PRO model.

And the 980 PRO SSD drive recently received certification from the Korean NRRA authority, so the launch of the drive that Samsung unveiled this year at CES should not be far off. Although the certificate does not directly mention the 980 PRO, the model number of the mentioned product corresponds to the upcoming SSD unit. The fact that the disk should be available soon is also "confirmed" by the well-known "leaker" @IceUniverse on his Twitter.

The SSD 980 PRO is the first M.2 NVMe drive from Samsung that supports PCIe 4.0, thanks to which it achieves a write speed of up to 6,5GB/s and a read speed of up to 5GB/s. In theory, this means that loading a game can literally take just the blink of an eye. There should be 256 and 500GB and 1TB storage variants. The only snag could be the price, which could be higher for the disc with the largest capacity than the price of the PlayStation 5 itself.

Would you be willing to pay the price of a console for bigger and faster storage? Let us know in the comments.
