Already earlier this year, various companies began canceling their participation in a handful of events that were not canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Samsung is no exception in this regard, and decided to cancel personal participation even in the case of IFA - the largest European consumer electronics trade fair. According to South Korean media reports, Samsung will participate in the fair only in online form.

A company spokesperson said in an interview with TechCrunch magazine that the company decided to present its news and important announcements online only at the beginning of September. "Although Samsung will not be attending IFA 2020, we look forward to continuing our partnership with IFA in the future." he added. The European Union announced this week that it is opening borders in a further fifteen countries, while travel bans for travelers from the United States, Brazil and Russia continue. As for the holding of the fair as such, it seems that it will not be threatened. But it may happen that Samsung's recent decision will trigger a domino effect, and other companies will gradually renounce their participation due to concerns related to the pandemic. It was similar, for example, in the case of the World Mobile Congress. The organizers of the IFA trade fair announced in mid-May that the event would be held under certain measures, and issued a statement saying that they hoped to get the pandemic under control soon. The mentioned measures include, for example, limiting the number of visitors to a thousand people per day.
