Press Release: Rakuten Viber, one of the leading secure communication apps, announces that the “disappearing messages” feature is now available to all users within Personal Messages. This feature was previously only available within secret chats. But now, as part of any conversation with another person, users can set a countdown when sending a text, photo, video or any other file and choose seconds, minutes, hours or days when the sent message should disappear from history. The automatic countdown to deletion starts the moment the recipient has read the message. This feature continues to cement Viber's position as the most secure communication app in the world.

How to create disappearing messages:

Click the clock icon at the bottom of the screen in any chat and choose the time after which you want the message to disappear.
Write a message and send.

Viber repeatedly emphasizes how important user privacy is to it. So it came up with news like deleting messages in all conversations in 2015, encryption on both ends of the conversation in 2016 and hidden and secret conversations in 2017. And now it adds disappearing messages to regular conversations.

This new feature allows users to share informace, which are deleted after the selected time period has elapsed. Notifications are also added in case someone takes a screenshot.

“We're very excited to now bring disappearing messages to regular private conversations. In 2017, we introduced this feature as part of secret chats, but we found that a similar privacy feature also belongs in regular chats. And even with a notification in case the recipient takes a screenshot of the received disappearing message. It's another step for us to make our app the most secure communication platform in the world," said Ofir Eyal, COO of Viber.
