Smartphone protective glass company Corning is reportedly ready to launch a new generation of Gorilla Glass for the Note 20 series (or at least the Note 20 Ultra). These smartphones from the South Korean company could thus be the first ever to be equipped with the company's new protective glass.

It seems that the new glasses might be called Gorilla Glass Victus, and not Gorilla Glass 7. But some sources claim that Corning might launch both glasses at the same time. However, the durability of this glass is important. Gorilla Glass Victus should be twice as scratch-resistant and twice as drop-resistant compared to Gorilla Glass 6. It can be said that this glass is a milestone for Corning, as it has never been able to increase both scratch resistance and drop resistance at the same time. Scratch resistance has improved quite a bit since Gorilla Glass 3, so now the company is mainly trying to focus on the latter aspect, with this glass reportedly able to withstand a drop of two meters, while the previous generation can handle 1,6 meters.

Interestingly, even if Samsung is reaching for this new glass, it doesn't necessarily mean that aspects of the previous generation will be doubled down. Corning is testing its glasses of a certain thickness, but the South Korean company could, however, reach for a thinner version that would have properties closer to Gorilla Glass 6. So Samsung has two options. Either they will make their smartphone more durable, or they will be satisfied with the durability of last year, preferring to use the option of a thinner profile. The good news not only for Samsung is also the fact that the cost of the new generation of Gorilla Glass is identical to Gorilla Glass 6. We will see which model will see Gorilla Glass Victus this year. How satisfied are you with the durability of your smartphone cover glass?
