The popular video platform YouTube has been introducing more and more restrictions in recent years, both for creators and users. Among the latest news in this direction, there is also a change in the way YouTube videos work when they are embedded on third-party websites. Google wants to improve the age rating process of its videos with the help of machine learning technology. Content, which is accessible only from the age of eighteen, will no longer be able to be uploaded to third-party websites.

If any video on YouTube is age-restricted, only users over the age of eighteen can see it, and only when they are signed in to their Google Account. The profile for the given account must be filled in properly, including data on the date of birth. Google now wants to further insure against age-restricted videos reaching younger viewers. Inaccessible content will no longer be viewable and playable if it is embedded on any third-party website. If the user tries to play the video embedded in this way, he will be automatically redirected to the YouTube website, or to the relevant mobile application in the middle.

At the same time, the operators of the YouTube server are working on improvements in which, with the help of machine learning technology, it will be possible to make it even better to ensure that age-restricted videos can actually only be seen by registered users over the age of eighteen. At the same time, Google states that there will be no significant changes to the terms of use of the service, and that the new restrictions should have no or very little impact on the income of creators from the partner program. Last but not least, Google is expanding the age verification process to the territory of the European Union - the relevant changes will be gradually reflected in the course of the next few months. The company warns users that if it cannot be reliably determined that they are over the age of eighteen, they may be required to show a valid ID regardless of the age provided when registering a Google account.
