As is known, Samsung and Microsoft are long-term partners in various projects and technologies, including cloud services, Office 365 or Xbox. Now the tech giants have announced that they have joined forces to offer end-to-end private cloud solutions for 5G networks.

Samsung will place its 5G vRAN (Virtualized Radio Access Network), multi-access edge computing technologies and virtualized core on Microsoft's Azure cloud platform. According to Samsung, the partner's platform will offer better security, which is a key aspect for the corporate sphere. These networks could work, for example, in shops, smart factories or stadiums.

"This collaboration highlights the fundamental benefits of cloud networks that can accelerate the deployment of 5G technology in the enterprise sphere and help companies implement private 5G networks more quickly. Deploying fully virtualized 5G solutions on a cloud platform also enables huge improvements in network scalability and flexibility for mobile operators and enterprises,” the South Korean tech giant said in a statement.

Samsung hasn't been a big player in the networking business, but since smartphone and telecom giant Huawei's troubles began, it has sensed an opportunity and is looking to expand rapidly in that area. It recently concluded agreements on the deployment of 5G networks, for example, with Verizon in the USA, KDDI in Japan and Telus in Canada.
