Samsung announced that it will spend 34,1 million dollars (converted to over 784 million crowns) for 31 research projects. These projects are straddled across basic sciences, communication media, information and communication technologies, and material sciences. The technology giant confirmed the projects that were finalized for the second half of this year.

Research projects chosen by Samsung include those devoted to cell therapy, walking robots and human taste receptor research. In 2013, the company allocated a total of 1,3 billion dollars (approximately 30 billion crowns in conversion) to projects of domestic scientists working on the technologies of the future. So far, it has provided almost 700 million dollars from this package for a total of 634 projects of universities and public research institutions.

Of the fifteen basic science projects that will receive grants from Samsung this year, five relate to mathematics, four to life sciences, four to chemistry and two to physics.

In the area of ​​information and communication technology, Samsung has chosen nine projects that include robot control and next-generation devices for the diagnosis of retinal diseases. Seven medical-related projects were shortlisted.

Samsung ranks among the absolute world leaders in the amount of funds spent on research and development. In the first half of this year alone, he "poured" a record 8,9 billion dollars (over CZK 200 billion) into this area.
