The gaming smartphone segment has been growing comfortably in recent years, and brands such as Xiaomi, Nubia, Razer, Vivo or Asus are represented in it. Now another player, chip giant Qualcomm, could join them. The latter, according to the Taiwanese website Digitimes, cited by the server Android Authority is planning to team up with the aforementioned Asus and develop several gaming phones under its brand. They could be put on stage already at the end of the year.

According to the site, Asus will be tasked with designing and developing the hardware, while Qualcomm will be responsible for "industrial design" and "software integration of its Snapdragon 875 platform."

Qualcomm traditionally presents its new flagship chipsets in December and launches them in the first quarter of the following year. It is therefore logical that the smartphones produced in cooperation with the Taiwanese partner would be available only from the beginning of next year, if their launch takes place this year.

According to the site, the contract between the partners also calls for the joint purchase of components for both Asus' ROG Phone gaming phones and Qualcomm's gaming smartphones. Specifically, it is said to be displays, memories, photographic modules, batteries and cooling systems. This suggests that the chip giant's gaming smartphones could share some hardware DNA with current or future Asus gaming phones.

The website adds that Qualcomm and Asus expect to produce around a million phones per year, with 500 units expected to fall under the Qualcomm brand and the rest under the ROG Phone brand.
