The British government issued a report condemning Huawei's presence in the country, saying there was "clear evidence of collusion with the Chinese Communist Party apparatus." The smartphone giant responded by saying the report lacked credibility and was based on opinion, not facts.

According to findings by the House of Commons Defense Committee, Huawei has been funded by the Chinese government all along, which it says allows the company to sell its products at "ridiculously low prices". Huawei is also said to be involved in "a range of intelligence, security and intellectual property activities".

The committee concluded in the report that "it is clear that Huawei is strongly connected to the Chinese state and the Chinese Communist Party, despite its statements to the contrary."

UK companies are currently banned from buying 5G equipment from the company and must remove any Huawei equipment they have previously installed on their 2027G networks by 5. When the committee sought to push the date forward by two years, telecoms giants BT and Vodafone said the move could cause signal blackouts.

Some British MPs have warned that blocking the tech giant could have an adverse effect on other sectors of the economy, so the report recommends the government work more with allies to ensure there are other suppliers of telecoms equipment.
