This week, Samsung officially confirmed its long-term commitment to UWB (Ultra-wideband) technology in its line of devices Galaxy. The South Korean giant sees promising potential in this technology and is making efforts to integrate it into its products. Product line smartphone owners Galaxy could use the mentioned technology in the near future, among other things, to control smart locks.

UWB (Ultra-wideband) is the designation of a wireless protocol that uses a high-frequency signal (up to 8250 MHz) over a short distance. This protocol allows key applications to have more precise orientation in space and the associated connection with various smart devices, such as elements of smart homes. However, UWB technology can also be used, for example, to quickly share files between nearby devices or for precise orientation in areas such as airports or underground garages.

Samsung is a member of the FiRa consortium, which supports the mentioned technology. Samsung would welcome UWB technology not only in its line of devices Galaxy, but also for smart devices from other manufacturers. Samsung sees a promising future in UWB technology, and is ready to cooperate on its development with other members of the consortium. This strategy could help Samsung accelerate the development of new technologies and their greatest possible expansion. UWB technology was first introduced by Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, supports it too Galaxy Z Fold 2. Samsung wants smartphone owners series Galaxy in the near future, it will be possible to unlock smart locks with the help of the mentioned technology, but it has not yet given further details.
