Memory cards from the Samsung workshop have been paying for high quality for many years. The South Korean technology giant is well aware of this and is expanding its product portfolio with two completely new series of SD cards – EVO Plus and PRO Plus, which are intended especially for professionals. According to Samsung, they will offer exceptional speeds and durability when used in mirrorless cameras, digital SLRs, computers and cameras.

Both model series will be available in capacities of 32, 64, 128 and 256GB. 32GB cards are SDHC, the rest SDXC. All SD cards will offer the UHS-I interface (compatible with the HS interface) and the speed class U3 class 10, that is, except for the 32 and 64GB versions in the case of EVO Plus, there you need to count "only" with the class U1, class 10. These two memory designs also, unlike others, they do not support recording videos in 4K. EVO Plus cards reach a transfer speed of up to 100MB per second, in the case of the PRO Plus series it is a bit more complicated - all variants are capable of sequential reading speeds of up to 100MB/s, the 32GB version writes data at speeds of up to 60MB/s, all other variants up to 90MB/s.

When it comes to durability, Samsung really has a lot in store for customers. All newly introduced SD cards are equipped with seven-level protection against:

  1. salt water, where it can last up to 72 hours at a depth of one meter
  2. extreme temperatures, operating temperatures are set from -25°C to +80°C
  3. x-rays up to 100mGy, which is the value emitted by most airport scanners
  4. magnets up to 15 gauss
  5. shocks up to 1500G
  6. falls from a height of up to five meters
  7. wear and tear, the cards should handle up to 10 ejects and reinserts just fine

Samsung backed all this with a ten-year limited warranty, but it should be added that the company is not responsible for data loss or expenses incurred for data recovery.

All new SD cards are now available for pre-order on Samsung's US website. EVO Plus prices start at $6,99 (approx. CZK 162) for the 32 GB version, while the price tag for the largest memory was set at approximately CZK 928, i.e. $39,99. The PRO Plus card can then be purchased for $9,99 (approx. CZK 232), the 252GB version costs $49,99 (approx. CZK 1160). It is not yet clear whether the new model series of SD cards will be available in the Czech Republic, the South Korean company does not currently sell any SD cards on our market.
