Samsung announced in September that it will release an 8K movie shot almost entirely using its flagship smartphones Galaxy S20 to Galaxy Note 20. It has now been released in cinemas in South Korea, specifically in two cinemas in Seoul. Titled Untact, the film will play here on Samsung 8K QLED TVs.

The film was made by director Kim Jee-woon, who is also behind the popular film The Good, The Bad, The Weird from 2008 or the Hollywood action thriller The Last Stand from 2013. In the romantic film Untact starring Kim Go-eun and Kim Ju-hun.

The film will play in theaters until October 25. However, only a small group of viewers can watch it at once, as 8K cinemas use a reservation system to limit contact between people and reduce the likelihood of them being infected with the coronavirus. The film will be available later – first in Full HD and then in 8K – on Samsung's YouTube channel.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to view Samsung's lifestyle audio-video products in the cinemas, including The Frame TV or the range of 4K Ultra Short Throw laser projectors, and its latest smartphone flagships including Galaxy From Fold 2 a Galaxy From Flip 5G.
