Just less than two weeks after banning the popular video-making app Tiktok, Pakistan has lifted the ban. It was blocked because, according to local authorities, it was spreading immoral and immoral content. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has now said that it has received an assurance from the TikTok operator that the content will be moderated in accordance with the country's social norms and laws.

In the past, TikTok has not been entirely accommodating to requests from Pakistani authorities to restrict accounts and videos. The latest transparency report issued by its creator, the Chinese company ByteDance, shows that the operator took action against only two of the forty accounts that the authorities demanded to be restricted.

Pakistan is TikTok's 43th largest market with 12 million downloads. However, when it comes to the total number of videos removed for violating the app's content policies, the country ranks an unflattering third, with 6,4 million videos pulled from circulation. These videos were removed by TikTok itself, not at the request of the government, although videos can be removed for violating local laws.

TikTok remains banned in neighboring India and is still at risk of being banned in the US. Possible restrictions in the second mentioned country could seriously slow down its growth, however, it still remains a phenomenon. The app had over 2 billion downloads as of September this year and has 800 million active users worldwide.
