There is probably no dispute that artificial intelligence and machine learning are some of the most important technologies for any technology company today. Samsung has been continuously improving its AI technology for the past few years, however, in this area it is still behind companies such as Apple, Google or Amazon is lagging behind. Now, the South Korean giant has announced that it has partnered with a domestic IT firm to improve its NEON AI technology.

Samsung subsidiary Samsung Technology and Advanced Research Labs (STAR Labs) has signed a memorandum of understanding with South Korean IT firm CJ OliveNetworks to create "human" algorithms for AI technologies. The partners plan to create an "influencer" in the virtual world that can be used in different types of media. At the beginning of the year, Samsung introduced NEON technology, an AI chatbot in the form of a virtual human. The software that drives NEON is CORE R3, which was developed by STAR Labs.

Samsung intends to improve NEON and use this technology in various fields, including education, media or retail. For example, NEON can be a news anchor, a teacher or a shopping guide, depending on the implementation and the needs of the client. In the future, the technology will be offered in two business models - NEON Content Creation and NEON WorkForce.

Star Labs, which is headed by computer scientist Pranav Mistry, is also expected to partner with another domestic – this time a financial – company in the near future, though Samsung has not disclosed its name.
