Despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the mobile AR hit Pokémon Go from the studio Niantic managed to earn more than a billion dollars (roughly 22,7 billion crowns) this year. Sensor Tower came up with the information.

In its report, Sensor Tower states that Pokémon Go has enjoyed steady growth in sales since 2017, which even the covid-19 pandemic has not been able to slow down. The game for augmented reality, which was released in the summer of 2016, recorded 11% growth this year compared to the previous year, and its total sales have already exceeded 4 billion dollars (approximately 90,8 billion crowns).

The most profitable market for the game is the USA, where it earned 1,5 billion dollars (roughly 34 billion CZK), the second in the order is the home country of Pokemon Japan with 1,3 billion dollars (about 29,5 billion crowns) and the first Germany closes the trio with a great distance, where sales reached 238,6 million dollars (approximately 5,4 billion CZK).

When it comes to the breakdown of revenue by platform, it is a fairly clear winner Android, more precisely the Google Play store, which generated $2,2 billion in revenue, while Apple's App Store generated $1,9 billion. The success of the title is also indicated by the fact that it has recorded more than a billion downloads since its release until the summer of last year. It's also worth noting that the Niantic studio released updates in the past months with features that allowed players to enjoy the game without walking too much and thus stay safe.
