Taiwanese company MediaTek has been supplying major and minor smartphone manufacturers with a range of mid-range and low-end chipsets with support for 5G networks for some time. Recently, however, it has begun to focus on more powerful platforms and is now preparing to take another step in this direction - to release a chipset made with a 6nm process, which will have a similar architecture to Samsung's first 5nm chip Exynos 1080. This was reported by a reliable Chinese leaker going by the name Digital Chat Station.

According to the leaker, the upcoming MediaTek chipset has the model number MT689x (the last number is not yet known) and has a Mali-G77 graphics chip. The leaker claims that the chipset will score over 600 points in the popular AnTuTu benchmark, which would place it alongside Qualcomm's current flagship chips Snapdragon 000 and Snapdragon 865+ in terms of performance.

Just to remind you - the Exynos 1080, which will be officially launched on November 12th and which has been rumored for weeks, scored almost 694 points in AnTuTu. The Vivo X000 series phones should be built on it first.

The new chip is likely to be an upgrade of the 7nm Dimensity 1000+ chipset and primarily intended for the Chinese market. It could power smartphones priced around 2 yuan (about 6 crowns in conversion). It is not clear at this time when it might be revealed to the public.
