Spotify has started sending a survey questionnaire to its selected users, in which there was talk of a special subscription for podcast listeners. The company is apparently still figuring out what exactly such a service could look like and how much it could afford to charge interested parties for it. Spotify is worldwide the most popular music streaming service and monetizing a large podcast library seems like the next logical step to expand their options to make more money. We do not yet know when we will receive the new subscription.

The questionnaire asks users what they think would be the fairest price for a new service. The answers offer a range between three and eight US dollars. The special subscription would probably exist independently of the regular Spotify Premium, so users who are already paying would have to add such an amount to their current expenses.

And what should the service actually offer? This is also subject to market research. Access to exclusive content, earlier unlocking of new episodes of programs listened to, and canceling ads seem to be the most logical of the options offered. All of these features should be included in the most expensive version of the service, while the cheapest version could at best offer the same benefits with only advertising messages remaining in the shows. All in all, the new subscription looks like a win for Spotify – it's easier to benefit from the content it already produces than it is to struggle to secure new one.
