The Google Photos service is very popular not only among Samsung smartphone owners. It allows you to upload, backup, share and sync photos, and is available across virtually all Samsung devices. When the service first launched in 2015, it also included unlimited backups, with the current slightly reduced quality of backup photos for most users. Today, however, Google officially announced that it will definitely end unlimited backups next year.

The good news is that the cancellation of unlimited backups will not affect photos already uploaded - it will only apply to photos that users have uploaded to Google Photos since the cancellation went into effect. Starting June 1 next year, all newly uploaded photos and videos will count toward the 15GB of free storage that comes with every Google account. Existing videos and photos uploaded in high quality will not count towards this limit – all content users upload to Google Photos before June 1 next year will be included in the exemption and will continue to be free to store.

You can check the quality of the backed up content in Google Photos in the application settings. In its statement, Google reminds users that the standard free 15GB of storage with their Google Account is more than enough to "store three years of memories". At the same time, Google will introduce new storage management tools for users in Google Photos. Among them will be, for example, a utility that will be able to highlight dark or blurry photos or videos that are too long, and recommend that users delete them to save space.
