Google has recently embarked on a redesign of a number of its applications. A big change already in certain regions for example, Google Pay passed, minor changes, especially the unification of the graphic design of application icons, were made by the company to its elementary applications such as Calendar, Docs or Mail. The new four-color variation was met with a strong wave of criticism, when the easily recognizable icons turned into homogenous-looking rectangles, which clearly abandoned the design simplicity of the old icons. According to the website 9to5Google, the call application will go through the same process, and the American company will give it a new name. The renamed application will be called Google Call.

Clues to the upcoming change can be found in an ad for the still-ancient Phone by Google app that has started appearing on YouTube. The content of the ad is appealing to the current form of the application, but keen eyes have revealed that the service is already referred to as Google Call in the upper left corner of the ad. The new name is accompanied by a four-color phone icon, in the style so typical of the company's redesigned applications. We can still find the application in its older form on Google Play. It looks like Google will resort to the official update only with the redesign of other communication applications, because together with Google Messages and Google Duo, they form a set of services that are managed by the same executive in the company.
