The Swedish music streaming company Spotify is facing a serious security problem, as the data of 350 users, including login details, has been leaked. Fortunately, Spotify was quick to respond and reset the login passwords of affected users.

Information that Spotify faced an attack appeared on the website vpnMentor, which deals with Internet security. The database, which was 72GB and located on an unsecured server, was found by security experts Noam Rotem and Ran Locar, who work for the previously mentioned website, unfortunately have no idea where exactly the leaked data could come from. But one thing is for sure, Spotify itself was not hacked, most likely the hackers obtained passwords from other sources and then used them to access Spotify. There is a hacking technique that uses weak passwords and the fact that users keep using the same passwords on different websites.

The incident took place already in the summer, informace however, it only now appeared about him. The website vpnMentor informed Spotify about the risk and they reacted very quickly and reset the passwords of the affected users.

We should all take a lesson from this event, use the same password everywhere, especially if it's simple, it doesn't pay off. A good password should be at least 15 characters long and contain upper and lower case letters as well as numbers. The best option is to use a password generator and write down the passwords.
