Google wants to keep improving YouTube. The most popular platform for sharing video content is doing better every year, and this year will probably not be an exception due to the forced stay at home and the increased amount of free time. YouTube already has its mobile app improved a few weeks ago by implementing new control gestures and making the menu with chapters clearer. The ability to divide your video into marked segments first appeared on the service last year, and now the company wants to take it to a new level. Instead of manually entering times and marking chapters in the future, artificial intelligence will take over this overly routine activity from users.

YouTube has started testing a function that, after pressing a button, allows you to automatically divide the recorded file into chapters, so far only for selected videos. According to the official website, the testing has been running since November 23. The company will use a machine learning algorithm for automatic segmentation, which recognizes the text in the video and uses that to decide on the length and labels of individual chapters. We will see how the program will work in reality. Text in videos may not always mark the beginning of an important passage. The question also remains how the algorithm will deal with videos that use text on each frame. It seems that glitches will be inevitable, so the company is only testing the feature on a small number of videos. Of course, YouTube will not impose automatic division of chapters on anyone. We don't have to worry about your favorite creators being forced to use some kind of functional algorithm.
