Samsung's shipbuilding subsidiary Samsung Heavy Industries has won two contracts worth nearly 270 billion won (just under 5,5 billion crowns) to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) ship and an oil tanker. The LNG tanker should set sail in 2023.

Specifically, the contract for the construction of an LNG tanker for an unspecified ocean company is worth 206 billion won, for the contract for the construction of an S-Max class oil tanker (this class refers to oil tankers weighing 125-000 tons capable of passing through the Suez Canal with a full load) then there is 200 billion won. Construction of the LNG tanker should be completed by the summer of 000, for the oil tanker it is unknown at this time.

Although Samsung Heavy Industries is a lesser-known subsidiary of Samsung, it is an absolute leader in its industry, as evidenced by the fact that it currently holds the highest position in the markets for LNG tankers, drillships and FPSO (Floating production storage and offloading) class vessels position. From 1974, when the company was founded, until the last day of last year, it built a total of 1135 ships and offshore facilities.

This year, the company is doing very well and in November alone it secured orders worth 2,9 billion dollars (approximately 63,2 billion crowns).
