Samsung Medical Center (SMC) released a statement on Monday saying it was the first in Korea to perform surgery using a gama knife on a total of 15 patients. The device was put into operation for the first time in the premises of the SMC in 2001. During the past year, more than 1700 patients were operated on with its help, and by the end of this year, the number of people who underwent surgery on the scrotum at the SMC should reach 1800.

According to its management, Samsung Medical Center thus became the first medical facility in Korea in which it was possible to successfully treat 15 thousand patients with the help of Gamanoz. In the vast majority of cases, these were interventions related to brain tumors, disorders of blood circulation and vascular supply to the brain, and similar diagnoses. Gamanůž enables neurosurgeons to perform procedures without the use of classical instruments such as saws or scalpels.

The newest addition to Samsung Medical Center's equipment was Leksell's gaman in 2016, and the center regularly upgrades its equipment to provide safer and more effective treatment for its patients. Experts from the Gamanoz Department at Samsung Medical Center have already published more than sixty studies in the international medical press, and have been awarded six prestigious academic awards at international and local conferences for their work. Professor Lee Jung-il of SMC's Department of Neurosurgery said the center has been able to improve its technology over the past decade and strengthen its position in the field of treating brain disorders and tumors. He also promised that the center will continue to improve in the future.
