Today, when a person wants to buy a high-quality TV, it is difficult to resist the so-called smart version of the device, which comes with an already installed operating system and the ability to directly stream content from a huge selection of streaming platforms. Although linear television broadcasting is not dead yet, let's face it, most of us consume media in the form of VOD platforms such as Netflix or HBO Go. Smart TVs are generally becoming more and more popular, and our favorite Samsung once again holds the lead in this segment, at least in terms of the most widespread platform for streaming content to this type of device. Its Tizen operating system is used by 12,5 percent of such televisions.

According to a report by the analysis firm Strategy Analytics, Samsung sold 11,8 million TVs in the third quarter of this year. There are currently 155 million smart TVs powered by Tizen in the world, a year-on-year increase of 23 percent. However, a group of competitors is breathing down Korean companies' backs. LG's WebOS, Sony's Playstation, Roku's TV OS, Amazon's Fire TV OS and Google's Android TV.

Analysts expect sales of smart TVs this year to be around seven percent higher overall than last year. According to them, the increase in sales is due to the pandemic, which forces people to invest in home entertainment. Do you have a smart TV at home? Has it served you well in times of austerity?
