We finally got the next piece in the name puzzle Samsung Galaxy S21 just added Qualcomm, the company behind Snapdragon processors, has officially unveiled its latest venture, the top-of-the-line chip Snapdragon 888 (formerly known as Snapdragon 875), which will surely appear in phones Galaxy S21, we also have a benchmark available.

We will take the presentation of the new chipset very briefly so that the most important news can be clearly seen. The fundamental change is the transition from 7 to 5 nm production process, which made the 865 a big step forward from its predecessor – the Snapdragon 888. Thanks to this change, we can expect 25% better performance and energy efficiency.

If we focus on the graphics processor, the Adreno 660 graphics unit was used, thanks to which image rendering will be faster by 35% and the efficiency will increase by about 20%. Of course, photo processing is also related to graphics. In this area, Qualcomm used a new processor named Spectra 580 CV-ISP, it is revolutionary, because it allows the use of up to three lenses at once, thanks to which users "unlock" completely new possibilities for taking photos and videos and their subsequent editing.

It goes without saying that it supports fast Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E, 5G and Bluetooth 5.2 standards, thanks to the X60 modem and the FastConnect 6900 system. The computing units, artificial intelligence and security processor have also been upgraded. Gamers will surely appreciate the support of up to 144 frames per second, variable speed shading and an overall 30% better performance in games.

The fact that Qualcomm is focusing on energy saving rather than performance with its latest Snapdragon 888 processor clearly follows at least from the fact that the primary core of the chipset – Cortex-X1 runs at a relatively moderate frequency of 2,8 GHz. Which may have also been reflected in the benchmark result smartphone Galaxy S21 just with the 888, the novelty achieved 1075 points in the single-core test, and 2916 points in the multi-core test. Although these are not very dazzling results and even some reports say that the processor from Samsung's workshop - Exynos 2100, which will be a direct competitor of Snapdragon 888, will achieve better results. Even if true, it could be a Pyrrhic victory for the South Korean tech giant, as higher performance means higher energy consumption. Where will the truth be in the end and how will both processors perform in the bodies of the phones of the series Galaxy We'll have to wait a while for S21. Series Galaxy S21 will be officially presented most likely January 14, 2021.
