The Chinese government's Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) has announced that it has pulled the globally popular travel app Tripadvisor and 104 other apps from mobile app stores. It is unclear at this time why he did so.

In a statement, the CAC noted that it will continue to "strengthen the supervision and control of mobile application information services, promptly remove illegal applications and app stores, and strive to create a clean cyberspace."

However, according to CNN, the Tripadvisor site is still accessible in China without using a VPN or other method of bypassing the infamous Great Firewall of China. The operator of the application and the site, an American company of the same name, has not yet commented on the matter.

Of course, this isn't the first time that Chinese authorities have removed apps like this, but they've usually given a clear and understandable reason for doing so - even if we didn't necessarily like it. However, this did not happen in this case. In 2018, China blocked hotel chain Marriott's app for a week because it listed Hong Kong and Macau Special Administrative Regions as separate states on its platforms. It is not excluded that Tripadvisor has also committed something similar.

Tripadvisor is one of the most popular travel apps in the world and currently boasts more than 300 million users and more than half a billion reviews of accommodation, restaurants, airlines and tourist attractions.
