Recently, Samsung has been paying more attention to its smart home platform SmartThings, trying to improve it in every way and support more and more devices. Now, the South Korean tech giant has announced that it will integrate the Google Nest series of devices into the platform in January next year.

Thanks to the WWST (Works With SmartThings) certification, users of Google Nest devices such as cameras, doorbells and thermostats will get new tools to control them.

Samsung's goal with SmartThings is to increase compatibility for consumers as well as simplify the development of smart technologies for developers. The tech giant said in the mouth of IoT vice president Ralf Elias that it is "committed to creating a universal system where all smart home devices can work together."

These goals are reflected in the partnership with Google, as well as the recently announced collaboration with the Mercedes-Benz car manufacturer. Starting next year, Mercedes-Benz S-Class cars will be connected to the platform.

Launched by Samsung in 2011, the SmartThings IoT platform currently includes more than 60 million users across 10 million households. However, it is not the largest platform of its kind in the world - this first place belongs to the Chinese technological colossus Xiaomi, whose platform is currently connected to almost 290 million devices (not including smartphones and laptops).
