Not long ago, we reported that Samsung is working on a smart locator called Galaxy Smart Tag, inspired by the popular smart tags of the Tile brand. Now, some key details about it have leaked into the ether via additional certification documents.

According to this information, the Samsung Smart Tag will be a thin device powered by a single 3V coin cell battery and will also be compatible with the recently launched feature SmartThingsFind.

In addition, the certification documents state that the device will be powered by Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) technology, which means it will lack some of the more advanced features such as UWB (Ultra-Wideband), LTE or GPS that were previously speculated. However, this should not be a problem, as the pendant will apparently support the Bluetooth 5.1 standard, which has specialized functionality for signal routing and is intended for powering navigation inside buildings and tracking pendants. In theory, the locator should be able to find objects indoors at a distance of up to 400m and outdoors at a distance of up to 1000m, with minimal power consumption.

The documents also mention that the device will be available in two colors – black and light brown.

According to the latest anecdotal reports, it will Galaxy Smart Tag will cost from 15-20 euros (roughly 400-530 crowns) and should be launched together with the new flagship series Galaxy S21.
