As reported by the South Korean website The Elec, Apple intends to increase production of iPhones with OLED displays in 2021. According to the website, the Cupertino smartphone giant expects to ship 160-180 million phones with this type of screen next year, and in order to meet this target, it is said to increase purchases of OLED panels from Samsung subsidiary Samsung Display.

As is known, OLED displays are used by all models of the series iPhone 12, which should deliver around 100 million units to stores this year. It's supposed, that Apple will use this type of screen in all models of the series as well iPhone 13.

According to South Korean website The Elec, Samsung Display hopes to equip around 140 million iPhones with OLED panels next year. Another 30 million, according to Samsung's estimates, will be supplied by LG and 10 million by BOE. In other words, the Samsung subsidiary will remain the main supplier of OLED displays for iPhones in 2021.

The goal of LG, or rather its LG Display division, is to supply OLED panels for more than 40 million iPhones next year, which would be approximately twice as many as Apple supplied this year. BOE also wants to supply Apple with more OLED displays than Samsung Display estimates, namely 20 million. However, the question is whether the ambitious Chinese display maker will even be able to join the smartphone behemoth's supply chain, as its previous two attempts ended in failure - its products did not meet Apple's strict quality requirements.

OLED displays that the Cupertino technology giant will receive next year for iPhone 13, they say they will be compared to the ones he uses iPhone 12, more technologically advanced - two of the four models of the next generation should use LPTO TFT (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide Thin film Transistor) technology, which supports a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
