In the new update of the Netflix app for Android the streaming service will make available the option to turn off the image while playing videos. The new feature was spotted in the upcoming update by XDA-Developers and Android Shelf. The question arises on what occasions the new option will be useful. When playing a video, a button appears on the screen to turn on and off the streaming image. When the visual portion of the video is turned off, you'll still see controls in the app, including a video length indicator, time skip buttons, and the ability to adjust playback speed. Any movie or series can thus become podcasts at the push of a button. The advantage of such an approach can mainly be the minimization of downloaded data on the mobile connection, but the question remains whether it will be a reasonable exchange for someone. Let's also not forget that a lot of people use the service, for example, as a background when working.

Together with this "feature", Netflix also implements the possibility to set preferences for turning on and off the sound in more detail. In the menu, we will now be able to tell the application whether the sound should be turned off immediately when playing through the device's speakers or through headphones. It is not yet clear when all Netflix subscribers will receive the update. My application does not yet offer the options described above. Netflix is obviously trying to personalize its app as much as possible for its users. Will you use the new option on Netflix? Share your opinion with us in the discussion below the article.
